The Mohave College women's soccer team put up a strong fight Tuesday night, falling just short in a 2–1 loss to #2-ranked Arizona Western College at Bullhead City's Rotary Park.
The Bighorns struck first in the 20th minute when Magaly Guzman-Lopez found the back of the net off assists from Estephanie Montiel-Silva and Alayna Littlewood, putting Mohave ahead 1–0. Arizona Western evened the score ten minutes later on a goal from Kanon Ozaki, then edged ahead early in the second half when Reina Kasano scored the game-winner in the 49th minute.
Mohave goalkeeper Evelyn Montiel-Silva had a standout performance, recording 12 saves while facing 25 shots from the powerful Western offense. The Bighorns managed 8 shots of their own, including 2 on target.
Despite the narrow defeat, the Bighorns' resilience against one of the nation's top teams underscores the rapid growth of Mohave College's inaugural women's soccer program.
