The Mohave College men’s soccer team kicked off their playoff run with a 1-0 victory over Eastern Arizona College on Tuesday night at Firebird Field.
The Bighorns struck late in the first half when Nolan Garcia scored off an assist from Mauricio Velazquez in the 37th minute. Mohave’s defense stayed sharp throughout the match, with goalkeeper Chase Radford making two key saves to secure the shutout.
Mohave outshot Eastern Arizona 18-9 and controlled possession for much of the game, creating consistent pressure on the visiting defense. Despite several yellow cards, the Bighorns maintained composure and closed out the match to advance in the playoffs.
“It’s our first playoff game for our program, so I think we are going to be better on Saturday,” said Head Coach Camilo Valencia. “We’ll know what to expect, and now we’re playing for the regional championship.”
With the win, Mohave advances to the Region I Championship, where they will face Yavapai College on Saturday, Nov. 1, at 6 p.m. at Firebird Field. Admission is $10 for adults and $7 for students.
