Mohave Community College Men's Soccer records win following Community Christian College forfeit
Mohave Community College Men's Soccer put up another victory in Tuesday's matchup against Community Christian College, knocking back 10 goals in just 52 minutes of play.
MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave Community College Men’s Soccer put up another victory in Tuesday’s matchup against Community Christian College, knocking back 10 goals in just 52 minutes of play. However, Community Christian College forfeited the match, which will result in a recorded final score of 1-0 and a win for the Bighorns.
Men’s Head Coach Camilo Valencia says games like the one Tuesday night make him anxious more than anything else, anxious about the possibility of a Bighorn player becoming injured during a forfeited match and subsequent win for Mohave Community College.
“The guys played a professional game,” Valencia says. “They played the right way and in 52 minutes of play they were able to score 10 goals. Unfortunately, it’ll go down as a forfeit, but we did get most guys in the game.”
Goals and assists for the Bighorns Tuesday night were as follows: Brayan Lino (Jorge Quintero), Jorge Quintero (Brayan Lino), Dominic Portale (Aaron Sullivan), Dominic Portale (Denny Bernal), Erik Nava, Brayan Lino (Dominic Portale) Matias Seymour (Brayan Lino), Denny Bernal (Aaron Sullivan), Aaron Sullivan and Hunter LaPointe (Aaron Sullivan).
This was the second matchup between Mohave Community College and Community Christian College, with the Bighorns winning that first game in September 10-1 in only 70 minutes of play. For National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) soccer, wins see teams receive three points, ties one point and losses no points.
“The most important thing right now is to stay healthy, get the three points and keep moving forward,” Valencia says.
Up next for the Bighorns is a matchup at Yavapai College on Saturday, Oct. 12. This will mark the second matchup of the season between the two squads, with the Bighorns winning the first bout in September 1-0.
“We go to Prescott to play Yavapai, which will be exciting for some of us that played at Yavapai,” Valencia says. “It’s going to be a very good game because it’s a team that is close to use in the standings. Whoever gets that win is solidifying that second-place spot in the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC). It’s going to be a tough match because they’re well coached and have a ton of talent.”
