MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave Community College Women’s Soccer fought Yavapai College to a 0-0 draw on Saturday, Oct. 12, and now moves onto the final home game of the inaugural regular season versus Eastern Arizona College on Tuesday, Oct. 15. The Bighorns take the field at 7 p.m. for a match that Women’s Head Coach Robert Podeyn says is sure to end the season at Bullhead City's Firebird Field with a bang.
Mohave Community College Women’s Soccer’s draw with Yavapai College is the second draw between the two schools of the season, with that first matchup in September seeing a final score of 1-1. Women’s Head Coach Robert Podeyn says this most recent game saw the Bighorns perform more consistently throughout the match than in September, adding that his squad played better and better as the game progressed.
“The first 30 minutes, I thought Yavapai was playing a bit better than us as they were controlling possession a little more,” he says. “We made some adjustments, and in the last 15 minutes of the first half, we were the ones controlling possession. In the second half, it was all us.”
That makes two games in a row that the Bighorns have forced a shutout for their opponents, as the Bighorns also defeated Community Christian College 11-0 on Tuesday, Oct. 8. Now, Mohave Community College Women’s Soccer will look to win two games in a row at home come Tuesday upon hosting Eastern Arizona.
“They’re a very good team that’s third place in the conference,” Podeyn says. “Last time we played, it was a good game but they beat us 3-1. The fun part of what I’ve seen this season is that every time we play an opponent for a second time, we perform much better. I expect this to be a really good game, a really good battle.”
Tuesday also marks the last home game of the inaugural regular season for Mohave Community College Women’s Soccer.
“We’re playing our best soccer now, so for soccer enthusiasts, you’re going to see two very good teams playing Tuesday night,” Podeyn says. “You’re going to see a team that has significantly improved and is really focused on playing their best soccer right now. Having a large fan base out there watching helps us play that much better.”
